Deader than a Doornail

That is how I feel my Etsy shop is right now. I have had two sales in I don't know how long and both of them were for sale items (although one of them was not supposed to be for sale.) I put the darn stuff on 40% off to destash some of those hair clips and headbands and I have had one sale. What a giant drag. Will I try the Christmas in July sale next year? Probably not unless things change radically. The whole summer has been sluggish compared to spring and it stinks!! Okay, my vent is over. Tomorrow morning bright and early starts my team's "scraps" challenge. We are supposed to be crafting stuff from bits sitting around the house. I have no idea what I am going to do as I have tons of stuff sitting around the house but most of it isn't scraps. So I shall just have to see what I can come up with. On a side note, teenage boys with nothing to do all summer are a giant pain. They whine, they complain, they go out to the mailbox and already stink by the time they get back and then want to hug you. I almost wish school was back in but then I would be driving him to karate all the way across the city twice a week. I am not missing that I can tell you! I have listed a couple of new clips this past week including this one that I think turned out really pretty.

OMG I was on Regretsy!!

and didn't even know it!! I just looked at Google Analytics and wondered why the heck I had 505 shop  views on Thursday the 12 of July. My average shop views hovers around 150-200. So I looked at referring sites and I got 400 visitors from Regretsy. WTF!!! Since I am a fan on facebook I looked at the postings for Thursday and found this:

Where are all the views?

What is going on at good old etsy?!! I seriously need to vent!! I just posted a new item on etsy this evening and so far I have racked up the grand total of 2 view. What the heck is going on? I have never EVER had that few views, even when I listed at 2:00 in the morning. Something is going on at etsy and it sucks!! I think they are doing more of their tweaking and it is making items harder to be found. It really makes me mad because it is affecting my business!! I get more views than that on Artfire items and Ecrater items so this is ridiculous!! Here is my sweet item that no one is paying attention to:

It is too cute to be missed!! On a side note, I have three diaper cakes that I have to complete but haven't gotten around to yet. I really need to get started but I just had to vent!!

This is the first item that I made in my teamie Bizzie's 7 day challenge. We have to create and list one new item every day for seven days, no renewing or relisting. This was good for me because it actually got me off my duff and made me create some new items. It is fun to work on the hair clips and diaper cakes too and it makes it less boring to switch off. This is the first item I am listing that is part of what I am calling my new Glam Diva line which is gorgeous sophisticated hair items for little girls that can also be worn by women too. So the babies and the mommies can share! : )

Not Bad Thai Food!!

Okay for all those interested and those who are not as well, I just thought I would mention that my son's gastrointestinal issues are not the result of the bad thai food as I previously thought. Yes, the food was bad but it wasn't the reason that he has spent the past four days on the toilet. He has some sort of intestinal bug which as usual he has managed to pass to me. Why is it whenever he gets ill he always passes it on to me?!! I know that a teenage boy's hygiene is questionable at best but I always wash my hands. Very frequently in fact, a habit that I picked up when my younger son was immune deficient from the chemo. And when Alec has a bug I always bleach spray sink handles, door handles, and toilet handles just to be safe. But I still catch it!! The only thing I haven't contracted from him is when my husband came home with pink eye and gave it to our son. I said there is no way I am going to catch that gross stuff from Mr. Goober eye and goober eye jr. Yick! I wore rubber gloves the whole time and didn't rub my eyes for a week. Extreme? Maybe, but it worked. I also learned this week that the BRAT diet (bananas, apples, rice, and toast) that all the pediatricians recommended when my boys were little, that I used every time they had loose bowels is all a load of bunk. Here is what I read:

The diet is no longer recommended for most patients .^[3] The American Academy of Pediatrics states that most children should continue a normal, age appropriate diet. The foods from the BRAT diet may be added, but should not replace normal, tolerated foods. Sugary drinks and carbonated beverages should be avoided.^{[citation needed]} BRAT is nutritionally incomplete and may be deficient in energy, fat, protein, fiber, some vitamins and calcium. Cultured foods, rice water, coconut water and soluble fiber foods/supplements are more effective at treating ongoing diarrhea in conjunction with tolerated foods and beverages.

I seriously wish they would make up their minds. Now something they had been pushing for years is not a good idea. Well that is just great!!

Happy 4th of July!

I think I will faint, I am actually posting two days in a row!! : ) My threadkiller teammates have inspired me and I don't know what to do about all of this wanting to post things. I hope everyone stays cool, has a good time, and makes lots of sales while they aren't looking (including me)!! So far it's not happening but there is always hope. Does anyone get that weird feeling in your chest when the fireworks are the really loud popping ones besides me? I hate that feeling but I love to watch the fireworks. My niece saw them for the first time this year and it is so beautiful to watch how the young love new and exciting things. She wasn't even scared.  I wish I had a barbecue to go to this year but it is 103 outside and my son is still feeling the effects of that bad thai food so I will just go look at 4th of july recipies and drool. Here is my favorite 4th of July dessert. It is very easy to make and so light and fruity and delicious I just might have to make one even though I have no where to go. (I substitute strawberry slices for the raspberries.)

Red, White, and Blueberry Trifle

This dessert would be right at home at a Fourth of July barbecue. You can substitute sliced fresh strawberries for the raspberries, if you prefer.

Ingredients

• • 1/4 cup plus 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 store-bought pound cake (12 ounces), cut into 3/4-inch-thick slices
  • 1 bar (8 ounces) reduced-fat cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 cups fresh blueberries (three 1/2-pint containers), rinsed and dried
  • 3 cups fresh raspberries (two 6-ounce containers)

Directions

1. Make lemon syrup: In a small saucepan, bring 1/4 cup sugar, lemon juice, and 1/4 cup water to a boil over medium heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Let cool completely, then brush over both sides of cake slices. Quarter each slice.
2. With an electric mixer, beat cream cheese with remaining 1/3 cup sugar on high speed until lightened. With mixer on medium speed, gradually add heavy cream in a steady stream; continue beating until mixture is light and airy (mixture will be like a very soft whipped cream).
3. Arrange half the cake pieces in the bottom of a 2-quart serving dish. Spoon half the cream-cheese mixture over cake in dollops; spread to sides of dish. Scatter half the blueberries and raspberries on top. Repeat layering with remaining cake, cream-cheese mixture, and berries, piling berries in the center.
4. Cover, and refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour and up to overnight.

Never Go By the Name!!

Last night we went to a 4th of July celebration and it was really hot!! It was still 93 degrees at 11 o'clock at night when I was stuck trying to get out of the parking garage and morons were honking their horns which of course accomplished nothing but making me extremely ticked off!! But I digress. When we got to the celebration it was called the Taste of Frisco and was supposed to be sponsored by restaurants wanting people to sample their wares. We had planned to have dinner this way. Well, I took one look at the lack of proper heating and cooling elements around the food and said no thanks!! I am not out here trying to get a case of the runs!! So then we walked to a tex-mex restaurant that was down the street. Well, apparently everyone else had the same idea because wait for a table was an hour and twenty minutes. I don't wait that long for food so we went across the street to Best Thai. The wait was only 15 minutes so we decided to eat there (for the first time.) I love foods from other countries and cultures so it wasn't the fact that it was Thai food, it's just that it was bad Thai food. The appetizers were greasy and then I got my entree. I had ordered the lemon grass chicken which turned out to be chicken pieces that had been fried so long they were like little pieces of rubber cement and over that they had dumped bottled sweet chili sauce that completely drowned out any other flavor. It was just bad. My sister, who's Pad Thai was equally revolting said that the restaurant should have been named Worst Thai instead of Best Thai and I had to agree. We enjoyed the fireworks afterwards but my son was left with a little reminder because he started having gastrointestinal problems about 3:00 this morning and is still having them 12 hours later. So who knows, maybe we should have stuck with the Taste of Frisco food stands, it couldn't have turned out much worse. Poor Alec.

Aging Teenyboppers

Okay, so yesterday my sister took me to the New Kids on the Block Backstreet Boys concert. She paid for my ticket so I would accompany her. It just inspired some nostalgia because I took her to her first concert when she was 10 and I was 20 (NewKidsontheBlock) and now she is taking me. She was hugely pregnant which cracked me up and is a mom to Miss Poopsie my beloved 2 yr old niece and I am the mom to a 15 yr old lunkhead son and an angel who will permanently be 6 3/4. I have never been to a concert before that was all women (and a few gay guys) and I mean WOMEN! They were all around my age or a little younger and were acting like they were tweens or teenagers screaming and jumping up and down. Some had designed tshirts and some were holding signs saying I love.......(insert boyband member's name). I was thinking are you serious? Do you realize how ridiculous you look at your age? A lot had fashioned 80's retro outfits or were straight out of Flashdance and I was beginning to wish I had gotten the memo because I felt out of place in my tshirt and jeans. It's amazing how many words you remember to songs that your sister played endlessly 20 and 12 years ago. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. We had pretty good seats which were right underneath the suites and close enough to their aging grizzle faces that I needed to get. Just kidding, they actually looked pretty good for their ages. A mom had brought her 9 yr old daughter across the aisle from us and she looked totally bored. I thought why would you spend 90 bucks to bring a nine year old to a concert that she doesn't have the least bit of interest in? If I wanted to see it that badly I would go by myself. Or bribe my sister. : )

My son and my team

Two great things happened for me in the past month: my son turned 15 and I joined the best team on Etsy. Oh, make that three things. I reached my 200th sale on Etsy too. I joined the Threadkillers team because I recognized the names of some of the people in an incredibly funny thread that happened a couple of months ago and it has turned out to be a wonderful experience. Everyone is so nice and supportive of each other I feel like I have found real friends. I just love it. Now my son turning 15 is great because it means in another year I can kick him out and make him find a job during the summer which would mean no more whining about he is bored. Do all teenage boys have such rotten breath when they wake up (at 12:30 in the afternoon)? I swear I will kill him because he is deliberately breathing on me right now. Well I just wanted to make my first non business post and now I have to go to the grocery store to get stuff for his birthday cookout. I hate going to the grocery store on the weekend but I do not have room in my fridge for all the stuff I will need. Alec I love you but if you don't go brush your teeth you will permanently stay 15!!!!
